Bio-fireplaces burn bioethanol. The biofuel burns completely, so it leaves no combustion residue. When burning, a bio-fireplace produces only water vapor and carbon dioxide, which are completely odorless, smokeless, and harmless.
A bio-fireplace generates heat of approximately 1–3 kW depending on the size of the burner, and one liter of the fuel burns for about 1–2 hours.
