Frequently asked about Saunas
A rough rule (used by many sauna-heater suppliers) is about 1 kW per m³ of sauna volume.
- Small sauna 3–13 m³ → 3.5 - 9 kW heater.
- Medium sauna 9–16 m³ → 6 - 10.5 kW heater.
- Large sauna 12–28 m³ → 12 - 18 kW heater.
- Very large sauna 15 -40 m³ → 18 - 30 kW heaer.
If you have glass surface or any uninsulated surface you will need more power.
Each uninsulated square meter is multiplied by 1.2 and the result is added to the basic volume. The volume of a log or barrel sauna is multiplied by 1.5.
Yes, but we recommend you choose from our modular indoor saunas or outdoor saunas. Building a properly working sauna is not as simple as it seems and a lot of things can go wrong.

Olivine diabase is dense, stores a lot of heat, and withstands repeated heating/cooling cycles. It’s the traditional sauna-stone material used in all saunas. Olivine diabase comes in many shapes and forms depending on use-case.
Cracked Sauna Stones 5 - 10 cm
Use these for electric heater. It’s the traditional sauna-stone material, ideal as the main stone mass inside electric heaters.
Cracked Sauna Stones 10 - 15 cm
Use these for wood-burning heating. Thicker mass withstands more intense heat coming from burning wood and helps store it more efficiently.
Rounded Sauna Stones 5–10 cm
These are especially good for certain electric sauna heaters i.e. Huum Heaters(or for the top layer in electric heaters). Their rounded shape ensures better steam when you pour water (softer, more even löyly), and they fit well between heating elements in electric heaters.
Rounded Sauna Stones 10 - 15 cm
These are especially good for certain wood-burning sauna heaters i.e. Huum Heaters(or for the top layer in other wood-burning heaters). Their rounded shape ensures more pleasant steam when you pour water (softer, more even löyly).
Tulikivi White Decorative Sauna Stones
These are decorative only (e.g. for aesthetic finish on top of the heater stones), not suitable as the main functional stones. They can complement the look but should not replace sauna-rated stones.
For well-sized electric heaters, typical sauna heat-up time is about 30 - 60 minutes to reach ~70 - 90 °C for a standard indoor sauna.
Wood-burning saunas may take longer (often 60–90 minutes) to heat up, depending on the size, stove, and insulation.
Depending on the size of your sauna, the amount of stone inside of the heater, sauna insulation, ventilation, the exact time can vary depending on different factors as listed before.
